Threats / Problems / Issues

With most of Ascension’s flora having been introduced by humans, some of these have become invasive, therefore posing an additional threat to the island’s endemic and native plants. Two of these species, the Mexican thorn or mesquite Prosopis juliflora and a species of prickly pear Opuntia sp. are also known to be invasive in other areas of the world.
